Héctor Verdés Ortega (born 24 June 1984) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a central defender.

Club career


Born in Villar del Arzobispo, Valencian Community, Verdés was a product of Valencia CF's youth system. After unsuccessfully appearing for them as a senior (never made it past the reserves in three full seasons), he served a loan with Xerez CD in the Segunda División,[1] appearing in exactly half of the matches as the Andalusians finished in 15th position. In summer 2008, he was released by his parent club.

For the 2008–09 campaign, Verdés moved to the Segunda División B, playing under young manager Luis Enrique at FC Barcelona B. He returned to Valencia after only one year, spending an additional season with the reserve side – also in division three – which ended in relegation.

Verdés signed for Elche CF, also in his native region and the second division, in July 2010.[2] After three seasons of irregular playing time, featuring in 24 games in the first one and just 21 in the following two, mainly due to injuries,[3] he moved to fellow league team AD Alcorcón.[4]

On 29 June 2015, Verdés signed a two-year deal with Real Oviedo, newly promoted to the second tier.[5] On 20 July 2018, he joined CF Rayo Majadahonda from the same league after cutting ties with his previous club.[6]

After suffering relegation, Verdés moved to CD Castellón of the third division on 18 July 2019.[7]

Héctor Verdés Ortega (Villar del Arzobispo, Valencia, 24 de junio de 1984) es un jugador profesional de fútbol español. Se formó en las categorías inferiores del Valencia CF. Al finalizar la temporada 2006-2007, el Valencia CF le cedió al Xerez CD.[2] Tras un año en el equipo andaluz fue traspasado al FC Barcelona para jugar en su filial. Posteriormente fue fichado por el Valencia Mestalla en el mercado de invierno de la temporada 2009-2010 para reforzar la defensa del filial taronja. En la temporada 2010-2011 fue traspasado al Elche C. F. de la Liga Adelante. En la temporada 2013-2014, tras el ascenso del Elche CF a la Primera División Española, el club decide prescindir de sus servicios y el jugador, libre, firma por el AD Alcorcón de la Segunda división.[3] A finales de junio de 2015, Verdés llega a un acuerdo para vestir durante dos años la camiseta del equipo asturiano Real Oviedo.[4] El 20 de julio de 2018 firmó con el Club de Fútbol Rayo Majadahonda para jugar la temporada 2018-19 en la Segunda División en el debut del equipo madrileño en el fútbol profesional. Un año después fichó por el Club Deportivo Castellón.[5]
