Fue internacional con la selección de fútbol de Dinamarca en 24 ocasiones y marcó 17 goles.[2] Debutó el 24 de junio de 1945, en un encuentro amistoso ante la selección de Suecia que finalizó con marcador de 2-1 a favor de los suecos.[3]

Playing in the left winger position, Præst won two Serie A championships with Italian club Juventus FC. He played 24 games and scored 17 goals for the Danish national team from 1945 to 1949, and won a bronze medal at the 1948 Summer Olympics.[4] He is a Danish Football Hall of Fame inductee.
