Karriere


Malcolm Marshall bestritt während seiner Karriere insgesamt 81 Tests für das Team der Westindies, bei denen er insgesamt 376 Wickets erzielte.[1] Sein Testdebüt feierte er im Dezember 1978 in Bangalore gegen Indien. Seinen letzten Test absolvierte Malcolm Marshall im August 1991 gegen England in London. Bei One-Day International Matches (ODIs) wurde Malcolm Marshall 136 Mal eingesetzt. Sein ODI Debüt feierte Marshall im Mai 1980 gegen England in Leeds. Sein letztes ODI bestritt er beim Cricket World Cup 1992 gegen Neuseeland in Auckland.[1] Malcolm Marshall nahm für das Team der Westindies an zwei Cricket World Cups teil (1983 und 1992).


Sonstiges


Malcolm Marshall war von 1996 bis 1999 Trainer des West Indies Cricket Teams. Im Alter von 41 Jahren starb Malcolm Marshall an Darmkrebs.[1]

Malcolm Denzil Marshall (18 April 1958 – 4 November 1999) was a Barbadian cricketer. Primarily a fast bowler, Marshall is widely regarded as one of the greatest and one of the most accomplished fast bowlers of the modern era in Test cricket.[1][2][3][4] He is often acknowledged as the greatest West Indian fast bowler of all time, and certainly one of the most complete fast bowlers the cricketing world ever saw.[5][6] His Test bowling average of 20.94 is the best of anyone who has taken 200 or more wickets.[7] He achieved his bowling success despite being, by the standards of other fast bowlers of his time, a short man – he stood at 180 cm (5 ft 11 in),[1] while most of the great quicks have been well above 183 cm (6 ft 0 in) and many great West Indian fast bowlers, such as Joel Garner, Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh, were 197 cm (6 ft 6 in) or above. He generated fearsome pace from his bowling action, with a dangerous bouncer. He also statistically went on to become the most successful test match bowler of the 1980s with 235 scalps with an average of 18.47 within a time period of just five years.[8][9]
