In June 2019, Donnelly signed a deal with English side Nottingham Forest from Dungannon Swifts,[1] who he had played for since he was twelve.[2][3][4] On 10 August 2021, Donnelly signed his first professional contract with Forest.[5][6] That deal was extended at the end of the season when Forest gained promotion to the Premier League.[7] He made his professional debut for Forest on 23 August 2022, starting in a 3–0 EFL Cup win over Grimsby Town.[8]
Donnelly has competed with the Northern Ireland national team at under-17 and under-21 level.[9][10]
