Amir Elahi (Urdu: امیر الہی) pronunciation  (1 September 1908 – 28 December 1980) was one of the fifteen cricketers who have played Test cricket for more than one country.[1] This honor was given to him because he had earlier played Tests for India against Australia in 1947. He played 6 Tests in his career in which he participated in 5 Tests for Pakistan. He also played against India. In the first series for Pakistan, when he played in his last Test at Calcutta, he was 44 years old. After starting bowling as a medium pacer, he continued to do league breaks and gossip and gained fame in this regard.

Early years


Before entering Test cricket, he toured England with the Indian team in 1936 and took 17 wickets at an average of 42.94. Then on the tour of Australia in 1948-1947 he wanted to do well but here he faced difficulties when he was able to reach only 8 wickets at a more expensive average of 65.87. Going to Pakistan after independence and then After coming to India with Pakistan team, he took 13 wickets at an average of 38.76. Amir Elahi was a well-known player before the formation of Pakistan in India. He took 193 wickets in the Ranji Trophy at an average of 24.72. His most notable performance since becoming a citizen was against India in Madras (now Chennai) when he teamed up with Zulfiqar Ahmed to score 104 for the last wicket in which he contributed 47 runs. He played his first and last Test for India against Australia, in which he was bowled out for 4 by Burns and was caught by Bumler off Macaulay's ball and did not get his turn in the second innings. This test is scary. After that he could not play any Test for India.


1952-53 Indian Visit


After coming to Pakistan, when the Pakistan cricket team left for India for its first tour in 1952-53, Amir Elahi was a part of it. In the first Test held at Delhi, India scored 372 runs while playing first. Elahi bowled Vijay Hazare for 72 runs while Vijay Manjrekar bowled 23 runs, Gul Mohammad scored 21 runs and Ghulam Mohammad scored 50 runs for the loss of 4 wickets for 134 runs. While batting, they returned to the pavilion without scoring 9 runs in the first innings and in the second innings. India won the Test by an innings and 72 runs. The second Test was in Lucknow where Pakistan defeated India by an innings and 43 runs. India were bowled out for 106 in the first innings. Fazal Mehmood gave away 52 runs and dismissed 5 players. In fact, it was Fazal Mehmood's test, but Amir Elahi was deprived of bowling but could score only 4 runs in the batting. The third Test of the series was in Bombay (now Mumbai) which India won by 10 wickets. He scored only one run in the innings. The fourth Test of the series was in Chennai (formerly Madras) which ended without any result. In reply, India scored 175 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. In this match, a century partnership between Zulfiqar Ahmed and Amir Elahi on the last wicket was an important aspect of the match. Amir Elahi scored 4 runs and Pankaj Rai became the owner of the wicket for 29 runs. In the second innings, his batting did not come and he did not get a chance to bowl. This Test was scary but India won the five-Test series 2-1. After this series, Amir Elahi could not play Test cricket again.


Death


The great player of Pakistan cricket team died at the age of 72 years and 118 days in Karachi on December 28, 1980, but he will always have the honor of Test Cap No.1 in Pakistan cricket.
