Quiñónez is considered to be Emelec's captain by the team's manager.
As a youth player he was signed by Dutch giants AFC Ajax where he spent about a year but never got a chance to play in their first team. In 2000, he went back to Ecuador and is now one of Emelec's best players. Although the media hails him as the best wing back in the Ecuadorian league, he has not had many opportunities in Ecuador's national team.
