Zini made his debut for Cremonese in 1913, when the club played in the Promozione of Lombardy (it). His performances that season helped the team win their group and promote to the 1914–15 Prima Categoria. In 1915, Zini left the club as he was conscripted into the Royal Italian Army during World War I. He died on 2 August 1915, in the city of Cividale del Friuli while serving as a stretcher bearer after contracting typhoid fever.[1]
In 1929, Stadio Giovanni Zini was named after him.[2]
