Life and career
Palafox won five Pan American Games gold medals during the 1950s.[2]
He competed at the US National Championships four times and made the third round in 1952, with wins over Robert Kerdasha and Don Eisenberg, before a loss to 11th seed Gardnar Mulloy.[3]
In Davis Cup tennis, Palafox took part in nine ties and 20 rubbers, for 10 wins.[4] He beat Australian Ken McGregor in 1950 and four years later made history when he beat Vic Seixas, becoming the first Mexican to defeat an American in the Davis Cup.
Palafox died in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in August 2006 at the age of 82.[5][6]

Gustavo Palafox (Guadalajara, México) fue un tenista mexicano. Destacado por las competencias en las que representó a México, principalmente en Copa Davis y en los Juegos Panamericanos, en la modalidad de dobles y dobles mixtos. Cabe destacar que es el mexicano con más medallas en los Juegos Panamericanos. Ampliamente recordado por haberle arrebatado un punto en la serie de la Copa Davis de 1954 a Vic Seixas quien en ese entonces ya había llegado a 5 finales de Grand Slam, en las cuales venció en 2 oportunidades.
