Born in Adelaide, [7] Blinman was educated at Pulteney Grammar School under Headmaster W.S. Moore and played 23 first-class cricket matches for the South Australia.[7] He also played Australian rules football for Norwood Football Club in the South Australian Football Association (SAFA).[8]
