Jānis Šmēdiņš (born 31 July 1987) is a Latvian beach volleyball player. From 2008 to 2012 he played together with Mārtiņš Pļaviņš. They won bronze medal at European Championships 2010. Two years later they won bronze medal in 2012 Olympic Games in London. After 2012 he played with Aleksandrs Samoilovs and the duo are among world leaders before 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.[1][2][3]

Jānis Šmēdiņš, né le 31 juillet 1987 à Kuldīga (Lettonie), est un joueur de beach-volley letton. Il a été médaillé de bronze aux Jeux olympiques de Londres en 2012 avec Mārtiņš Pļaviņš. Il fait équipe avec Aleksandrs Samoilovs depuis fin 2012. Ils ont gagné ensemble trois tournois de la Coupe du Monde. Smedins & Samoilovs sont actuellement leader du Classement FIVB.

Янис Шмединьш (латыш. Jānis Šmēdiņš; 31 июля 1987 года, Кулдига) — латвийский пляжный волейболист. Бронзовый призёр на Летних Олимпийских играх 2012 по пляжному волейболу. Выступает в паре с Александровсом Самойловсом. На Европейском чемпионате в 2010 году в дуэте с Мартиньшем Плявиньшем завоевал бронзу. Тренер — Айгарс Берзулис (ранее Андрис Леитис). На Чемпионате мира 2011 года вместе с Мартиньшем Плявиньшем заняли 4 место, на Европейском чемпионате 2011 года заняли 5 место.
