Kavanaugh played soccer at Saint Louis University, graduating in 1986. In 1983, he was selected as Missouri amateur player of the year and competed for the United States in the 1983 Pan American Games.[1]
In 1986, Kavanaugh was drafted to the Los Angeles Lazers, a Major Indoor Soccer League team, as the second pick in the first round of the professional soccer draft.[2] After a short stint in the league, Kavanaugh turned to a career in business. Kavanaugh became the president of the board at St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club and Saint Louis FC board in 2012. He is a co-owner of the St. Louis Blues hockey team and St. Louis City SC.[1][3]
Kavanaugh worked as a sales manager for Future Electronics.[4]
In 1990, Kavanaugh joined David Steward in World Wide Technology (WWT), a company that provides technology products and services.
He served as chief executive officer (CEO) since that time, while the company grew to billions of dollors in revenue.[5]
By 2015 it had become one of the largest companies in the St. Louis area.[6]
By 2021, WWT reveues were over $13 billion, and his net worth was estimated as $2.3 billion.[7]
