Career

Smans impressed during his first season at VVV-Venlo despite his diminutive size.[1] He had his debut game in the Eerste Divisie on 13 August, 2021 against TOP Oss.[2] He scored his first league goal for VVV against FC Dordrecht on the 5 September, 2021. It proved to be the only goal of the game.[3] In the November of 2021, he was rewarded with a professional contract taking him up to the summer of 2025 with the club.[4] In August 2022, Smans was given the Jan Klaassens Award by VVV technical director Willem Janssen as the best academy prospect at VVV. Janssen himself had been the first recipient of the award in 2004.[5]
