Ganó dos medallas de oro en el Campeonato Mundial de Natación de 2022, dos medallas de oro en el Campeonato Europeo de Natación de 2022 y una medalla de oro en el Campeonato Europeo de Natación en Piscina Corta de 2021.[3]
Participó en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020, ocupando el cuarto lugar en los 200 m libre y el séptimo en los 100 m libre.[1]
En agosto de 2022 estableció una nueva plusmarca mundial en los 100 m libre en piscina larga (46,86 s).[4]

David Popovici (Romanian pronunciation: [ˈdavid ˈpopovit͡ʃʲ]; born 15 September 2004) is a Romanian competitive swimmer who specializes in freestyle. He is the current holder of the world record in the long course 100 metre freestyle and the junior world record in the long course 200 metre freestyle. At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Popovici won gold medals in his two signature events (100 metre freestyle and 200 metre freestyle), becoming the first swimmer to do so at the same edition of the World Championships, since Jim Montgomery in 1973.[2]- [es] David Popovici
