Matthew Sates (Sudáfrica, 28 de julio de 2003)[1] es un nadador olímpico sudafricano, especialista en estilo libre y estilo combinado. Fue olímpico tras participar en Tokio 2020 en las pruebas de 100 metros mariposa y 200 metros estilos.[2]

En el año 2021 ganó la Copa del Mundo de la FINA, consiguiendo un total de 18 medallas, 13 de ellas de oro siendo el competidor con más medallas totales.[3][4] Acumuló un total de 140.000 dólares en premios.[5]

En octubre de 2021, batió tres récords del mundo juniors, en las pruebas de 200 metros libres (1:40.65),[6] 200 metros estilos (1:51.45)[7] y 400 metros libres (3:37.92).[8][9]

Matthew "Matt" Sates (born 28 July 2003)[2] is a South African swimmer. For the 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup, Sates was the highest scoring male competitor from any country and earned a total of 18 medals including 13 gold medals. In addition to winning 18 medals, Sates set multiple world junior records over the course of the month-long World Cup. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in two individual events, placing highest in the 200 metre individual medley at 14th as well as placing 32nd in the 100 metre butterfly. He won the NCAA title in the 500 yard freestyle at the 2022 NCAA Championships.
