Biographie

Petit délinquant, déserteur, Thomas Rocco Barbella découvre dans une prison militaire qu’il est doué pour la boxe. À sa sortie, il signe un contrat avec le manager Cohen et prend le nom de Rocky Graziano. Il devient champion du monde de boxe des poids moyens entre 1947 et 1948.

On se souvient de lui pour trois intenses rencontres face à Tony Zale (les 2 premières étant considérées par Ring Magazine comme les combats de l'année 1946 et 1947). En 1991, tous deux furent introduits dans le célèbre International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Carrière d'acteur

En 1967 il apparait dans le court rôle de Packy, ex boxeur, aux côtés de Sinatra dans Tony Rome est dangereux de Gordon Douglas avec Frank Sinatra, Jill St John, Richard Conte, Gena Rowlands. Frank Sinatra évoquera un combat contre Jake LaMotta.

Thomas Rocco Barbella (January 1, 1919[1] – May 22, 1990), better known as Rocky Graziano, was an American professional boxer and actor who held the World Middleweight title.[2] Graziano is considered one of the greatest knockout artists in boxing history, often displaying the capacity to take his opponent out with a single punch. He was ranked 23rd on The Ring magazine list of the greatest punchers of all time. He fought many of the best middleweights of the era including Sugar Ray Robinson. His turbulent and violent life story was the basis of the 1956 Oscar-winning drama film, Somebody Up There Likes Me, based on his 1955 autobiography of the same title.
