Carrière


En 1998, il décroche la médaille de bronze aux championnats d'Europe de boxe amateur, dans la catégorie des mi lourds puis devient champion du monde des mi-lourds WBC le en dominant aux points Paul Briggs[1].

Le , Adamek bat pour la 1re défense de son titre l'allemand Thomas Ulrich par KO à la 6e reprise[2]. Vainqueur une 2e fois de Briggs le [3], il est détrôné par Chad Dawson le [4].

Le boxeur polonais poursuit sa carrière en lourds légers et bat notamment O'Neil Bell le au 8e round[5] avant de remporter le la ceinture IBF aux dépens de Steve Cunningham[6]. Il conserve cette ceinture en battant l'américain Jonathon Banks le (arrêt de l'arbitre à la 8e reprise)[7] puis Bobby Gunn le (arrêt de l'arbitre à la fin de la 4e reprise)[8].

Adamek laisse son titre vacant le pour affronter en poids lourds le son compatriote Andrew Golota, ceinture IBF International en jeu. Il l'emporte par arrêt de l'arbitre au 5e round[9] puis confirme ce succès en dominant aux points l'américain Jason Estrada le [10] puis Chris Arreola le (il s'empare alors du titre nord américain NABO)[11], Michael Grant le [12], Vinny Maddalone le [13] et Kevin McBride le [14].

Le , il affronte Vitali Klitschko pour le titre de champion du monde WBC au stade municipal de Wrocław mais s'incline par arrêt de l'arbitre au 10e round[15]. Le , il est opposé à Eddie Chambers, et remporte le combat par décision unanime des juges[16]. Tomasz bat ensuite au 5e round Travis Walker le puis Steve Cunningham de peu aux points le , la décision étant controversée[17]. Après un nouveau succès contre Dominick Guinn, il s'incline aux points face à Vyacheslav Glazkov le puis contre Eric Molina au 10e round le .

He held world championships in two weight classes, including the WBC light heavyweight title from 2005 to 2007, and the IBF and Ring magazine cruiserweight titles from 2008 to 2009. He also held the IBO cruiserweight title in 2007, and challenged once for the WBC heavyweight title in 2011. BoxRec ranks Adamek as the second best Polish boxer of all time, pound for pound.[1] He is the first Polish boxer to win The Ring title.
