Carrière

Il devient champion du monde des poids welters après avoir battu Honey Mellody par KO à la 4^e reprise le 20 avril 1908 et conserve son titre trois fois en 1910, tout d'abord contre Willie Lewis (deux fois par match nul en 25 rounds), puis contre Young Joseph (victoire par arrêt de l'arbitre à la 7^e reprise).

Harry Lewis laisse son titre vacant l'année suivante et poursuit sa carrière en poids moyens. Il met un terme à sa carrière en 1913 et compte à son palmarès 102 victoires contre 35 défaites et 18 matchs nuls..

Distinction

Harry Lewis (* 16. September 1886 in New York City, New York, Vereinigte Staaten als Harry Besterman; † 22. Februar 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA) war ein US-amerikanischer Boxer im Weltergewicht und Weltmeister von 1908 bis 1911. 2002 wurde er in die International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame[1] und 2008 in die International Boxing Hall of Fame[2] aufgenommen. Der Box-Journalist Nat Fleischer (1887–1972) bezeichnete ihn einmal als den sechstgrößten Weltergewichtler aller Zeiten.[3]

Harry Lewis (Harry Besterman; September 16, 1886 – February 22, 1956), was an American boxer, generally credited with holding the Welterweight Championship of the World from April 1908 to March 1911. He defeated "Young Joseph", the reigning Welterweight Champion of England in London on June 27, 1910, but was not credited with the British Welterweight championship as the fight was sanctioned as a World, and not English title. Boxing writer Nat Fleischer rated Lewis the sixth-greatest welterweight of all time. He was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, and into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2008.[1][2][3]
