Il devient champion du monde des poids super-plumes WBC le en battant aux points le dominicain Francisco Lorenzo[1]. Soto conserve son titre en stoppant au 4e round Antonio Davis le [2] puis Benoit Gaudet le par arrêt de l'arbitre au 9e round[3],[4].

Il s'empare ensuite de la ceinture vacante WBC des poids légers aux dépens de David Diaz le au Cowboys Stadium de Dallas[5] et confirme ce succès en battant aux points son compatriote Ricardo Dominguez le [6]; Fidel Monterrosa le et Urbano Antillon le [7].

Le , Humberto Soto bat au 11e round le boxeur japonais Motoki Sasaki (décision aux points après arrêt sur blessure)[8] puis il laisse son titre WBC vacant en juillet afin de poursuivre sa carrière dans la catégorie de poids supérieure. Il échoue en 2014 pour le titre nord-américain NABO des super-légers face à John Molina Jr. puis contre Jessie Vargas le dans un combat san titre en jeu en super-welters.

Armando Humberto Soto Ochoa (born May 11, 1980), best known as Humberto Soto, is a Mexican professional boxer. A veteran of the sport for over 20 years, he is a former world champion in two weight classes, having held the WBC super featherweight title from 2008 to 2009, and the WBC lightweight title from 2010 to 2011. He also held the WBC interim featherweight title from 2005 to 2006.
