Biographie

Carrière

Il devient champion du monde des poids pailles WBO le 3 mai 2003 en battant à Las Vegas Eduardo Ray Marquez par arrêt de l'arbitre à la 9^e reprise[1]. Après 11 défenses victorieuses, il laisse son titre vacant pour affronter Hugo Fidel Cázares, le champion WBO des mi-mouches. Il l'emporte aux points le 25 août 2007[2] et confirme cette victoire lors du combat revanche le 30 août 2008[3].

Le 13 juin 2009, Calderón fait match nul contre le philippin Rodel Mayol, le combat étant arrêté prématurément au 4^e round après un choc de têtes accidentel[4]^,[5]. Il remporte également le combat revanche aux points le 12 septembre après seulement 7 rounds en raison d'un nouveau choc de têtes[6] mais perd finalement son titre WBO le 28 août 2010 par KO au 8^e round face à Giovani Segura[7] ainsi que le combat revanche au 3^e round le 2 avril 2011.

Iván Calderón Marrero (born January 27, 1975) is a Puerto Rican former professional boxer who competed from 2001 to 2012. He is a two-weight world champion, having held the WBO mini flyweight title from 2003 to 2007 (making eleven successful defenses and being recognized as super champion by the organization), and the WBO, Ring magazine, and lineal light flyweight titles from 2007 to 2010 (making six successful defenses).[1] Additionally, his August 2010 bout against Giovani Segura was named fight of the year by Ring magazine. As an amateur Calderón represented Puerto Rico in international competitions, including the 2000 Olympics.
