Carrière

Boxeur professionnel dès 1912, il devient champion du monde des poids coqs après sa victoire aux points en 20 rounds contre Kid Williams le 9 janvier 1917. Herman conserve son titre face à Frankie Burns, Patsy Scanlon, Patsy Wallace, Johnny Solberg et Terry McHugh mais perd contre Jackie Sharkey le 15 août 1919. Il redevient champion du monde de la catégorie le 25 juillet 1921 en s'imposant contre Joe Lynch mais perd définitivement le 23 septembre suivant face à Johnny Buff.

Distinction

• Pete Herman est membre de l'International Boxing Hall of Fame depuis 1997[1].

Pete Herman (February 12, 1896 – April 13, 1973) was one of the all-time great bantamweight world champions.[1] An American of Italian heritage and descent, Herman was born Peter Gulotta in New Orleans, Louisiana, and fought from 1912 until 1927. He retired with a record of 69 wins (19 by KO), 11 losses, 8 draws and 61 no-decisions in 149 bouts. His managers were Jerome Gargano, Doc Cutch, Sammy Goldman and Red Walsh.[2] Nat Fleisher, Ring Magazine editor and founder, impressively rated Herman as the #2 best all time bantamweight.[3]
