Carrière

Il devient champion du monde des poids coqs IBF le 15 février 2003 en battant Timothy Austin par arrêt de l'arbitre à la 8^e reprise[1]. Après 7 défenses victorieuses, il laisse son titre vacant pour affronter le champion WBC Israel Vázquez. Il l'emporte le 3 mars 2007 par abandon à l'appel du 8^e round[2] mais perd la revanche le 4 août 2007[3] puis la belle le 1^er mars 2008[4].

Le 22 mai 2010, Márquez remporte le 4^e affrontement entre les deux boxeurs par arrêt de l'arbitre au 3^e round[5]. Le 6 novembre, en revanche, il abandonne à la fin de la 8^e reprise de son combat contre le champion WBO des poids plumes Juan Manuel López au MGM Grand de Las Vegas[6].

Rafael Márquez Méndez (born 25 March 1975) is a Mexican former professional boxer who competed from 1995 to 2013. He is a two-time world champion in two weight classes, having held the IBF bantamweight title from 2003 to 2007; and the WBC, Ring magazine, and lineal super bantamweight titles in 2007. He also held the IBO bantamweight title from 2005 to 2007, and challenged once for WBO featherweight title in 2011. Márquez was known for his formidable knockout power and relentless pressure fighting style. His older brother Juan Manuel Márquez is also a professional boxer and multiple-time world champion.
