Biografia

Vinse due medaglie di bronzo alle olimpiadi, entrambe nella disciplina 4x200m stile libero:

• Ai Giochi della XIV Olimpiade vinse in compagnia di René Cornu, Henri Padou e Joseph Bernardo, meglio di loro le nazionali ungherese e statunitense a cui andò l'oro.
• Ai Giochi della XV Olimpiade vinse in compagnia di Jean Boiteux, Aldo Eminente e Joseph Bernardo, il tempo totalizzato fu di 8:45.9, meglio di loro le nazionali giapponese e statunitense a cui andò l'oro.

Ai Campionati europei di nuoto Jany vinse la medaglia d'oro nei 100 m. stile libero e nei 400 m. stile libero sia a Monte Carlo 1947 che a Vienna 1950, per un totale di quattro medaglie d'oro individuali; vinse anche due medaglie d'argento con la staffetta 4x200 m. stile libero nelle stesse edizioni dei Campionati europei.

Vinse una medaglia d'oro durante i I Giochi del Mediterraneo. È il fratello di Ginette Jany-Sendral.[1]

Alexandre Charles Sixte "Alex" Jany[1] (5 January 1929 – 18 July 2001) was a French freestyle swimmer and water polo player. As a swimmer, he competed in 100–400 m events at the 1948, 1952 and 1956 Olympics, alongside his sister Ginette Jany-Sendral, and he won bronze medals in the 4 × 200 m relay in 1948 and 1952. In 1948 he placed fifth-sixth in the individual 100 m and 400 m events; he won those events at the 1947 and 1950 European championships, setting world records in both in 1947. At the 1960 Olympics he competed only in water polo and placed ninth.[2] In 1977 he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.[3]
