Carriera

Nel 1951 fu implicato in uno scandalo legato a un giro di scommesse, che coinvolse oltre 30 giocatori del campionato NCAA, accusati di aver truccato numerosi incontri per favorire un giro di scommesse. Spivey fu accusato da un compagno, ma non venne mai giudicato colpevole; nel 1953 fu assolto, e il processo stabilì che per il giocatore si trattò di un errore giudiziario. Nonostante ciò la NBA decise di non ammetterlo nella lega.

La sua carriera da professionista si sviluppò pertanto nella Eastern Professional Basketball League e in American Basketball League. Nella prima metà degli anni cinquanta giocò invece in alcune squadre di esibizione affiliate agli Harlem Globetrotters, come i Boston Whirlwinds, la "House of David" e i Washington Generals.

William Edwin Spivey (March 19, 1929 – May 8, 1995) was an American basketball player. A 7 ft 0 in (2.13 m) center, he played college basketball for the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Kentucky Wildcats from 1949 to 1951. After his high school career, Spivey was recruited by the University of Kentucky. During his time with the Wildcats, he led the team to the 1951 NCAA tournament championship, and was voted Most Outstanding Player of the event. When a point shaving scandal was revealed that year, Spivey was accused of being involved, which he denied. He left the Wildcats in December 1951, and the university banned him from the squad in March 1952.
