Nella NFL Combine del 2010 Best si è classificato terzo nella corsa delle 40 yard con un tempo di 4,35 secondi. Al draft NFL 2010 è stato selezionato come 30ª scelta assoluta dai Detroit Lions[1]. Il 30 luglio ha firmato un contratto di 5 anni per un totale di 9,8 milioni di dollari. Ha debuttato nella NFL il 12 settembre 2010 contro i Chicago Bears indossando la maglia numero 44.

Il 17 luglio 2013 è stato svincolato dai Lions[2].

Jahvid Andre Best (born January 30, 1989)[1] is an Olympic track and field athlete, a former American football running back. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at California, setting several school records, including most all-purpose yards in a single season and most rushing yards in a single game. Best also led the Pac-10 in total rushing yards in 2008. Best competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics, representing Saint Lucia in track and field. He later became head football coach of the Saint Mary's College High School Panthers in Berkeley, California, for one season.
