Club
Si forma calcisticamente nella rappresentativa della Saint Louis University, venendo inserito nel famedio dell'istituto nel 1996.[2] Nel 1971 milita nel St. Louis Kutis, una delle più importanti squadre dilettantistiche del Missouri. Nel 1974 viene ingaggiato dai St. Louis Stars, franchigia della North American Soccer League, restandovi fino al 1977. Suo miglior piazzamento in forza agli Stars fu il raggiungimento delle semifinali nel torneo del 1975, perse contro i Portland Timbers.
Ha inoltre giocato nei tornei di indoor soccer con gli Stars.
Lasciato il calcio giocato ha numerose esperienze come allenatore in Missouri con le rappresentative scolastiche e club dilettantistici come il Kutis ed il Busch SC.[3]
Anche il fratello Tom è stato un calciatore professionista.[4]

Jim Bokern (born 16 April 1952) is a retired U.S. soccer forward who played three seasons in the North American Soccer League. He then went on to coach at the high school, collegiate and amateur levels. He won a high school state title, three NCAA Division I, a National Amateur Cup, a National Challenge Cup, and two USSF Over-30 Cup championship as a player as well as two high school state titles, one National Challenge Cup championship, two U.S. U-20 Cup titles and two U.S. O-30 Cup titles as a coach.- [it] Jim Bokern
