Carriera
Boggs trascorse i suoi 18 anni di carriera principalmente con i Boston Red Sox, ma giocò anche con i New York Yankees, con cui vinse il suo unico titolo della World Series, e i Tampa Bay Devil Rays, con cui raggiunse le 3000 battute valide.[1] Negli anni ottanta e novanta fu quasi sempre tra i contendenti per il titolo di miglior battitore della American League. Boggs è stato eletto nella Red Sox Hall of Fame nel 2004 e nella Baseball Hall of Fame l'anno successivo.
Con 12 apparizioni consecutive all'All-Star Game, Boggs è al terzo posto, dietro solamente a Brooks Robinson e George Brett, nel numero di convocazoni consecutive per una terza base. Nel 1999, The Sporting News lo inserì al 95º posto nella classifica dei migliori cento giocatori di tutti i tempi.[2]
Il 26 maggio 2016 il suo numero è stato ritirato ufficialmente dai Boston Red Sox.[3]

Wade Anthony Boggs (born June 15, 1958) is an American former professional baseball third baseman. He spent 18 seasons in Major League Baseball, primarily with the Boston Red Sox. He also played for the New York Yankees (1993-1997), and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (1998-1999). He won the 1996 World Series with the Yankees over the Atlanta Braves. Boggs became the 23rd player to reach 3,000 career hits. His hitting in the 1980s and 1990s made him a perennial contender for American League batting titles. He is 33rd on the list of career leaders for batting average among Major League Baseball players with a minimum of 1,000 plate appearances and has the highest ranking of those still alive.
