Carriera

Si forma nel Manchester Utd, con cui esordisce il 7 marzo 1963 nella partita esterna vinta contro il West Ham Utd valida per First Division 1963-1964[1]; la stagione sarà chiusa dallo United al secondo posto.

Nel maggio 1966 è ingaggiato dal Brighton[1], con cui gioca due stagioni nella terza serie inglese.

Nel 1968 è ceduto in prestito agli statunitensi del Baltimore Bays, club della neonata NASL, tra le file del. Con Bays, di cui sarà il capocannoniere con sette reti, ottiene il quarto posto della Atlantic Division, non accedendo così alla parte finale del torneo.

Terminata l'esperienza americana, nel gennaio 1969 passa al Fulham, con cui retrocede in terza serie al termine della Second Division 1968-1969. Grazie al secondo posto ottenuto nella Third Division 1970-1971 Tranter torna a giocare con il suo club in cadetteria nella stagione 1971-1972.

Terminata l'esperienza con i Cottagers, nel 1972 torna in America per giocare con il St. Louis Stars, con cui raggiunge la finale, giocata da titolare, persa contro i N.Y. Cosmos, della NASL.[2]

Ritornato nuovamente in patria, si aggrega al Dover Town.

Wilfred Tranter (born 5 March 1945) is an English former footballer who played as a half-back. Born in Pendlebury, Lancashire, he played for Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham, Baltimore Bays and St. Louis Stars. He made his Football League debut for Manchester United two days after his 19th birthday on 7 March 1964, when regular centre-half Bill Foulkes missed the trip to West Ham United due to injury; Tranter was praised for his defensive handling of West Ham forward Johnny Byrne as Manchester United won 2–0.[1] It proved to be his only appearance for the club and he left for Brighton in May 1966.[1] He spent two-and-a-half years on the south coast, including a four-month loan spell with the Baltimore Bays in the North American Soccer League (NASL) between April and August 1968, before joining Fulham in January 1969.[1] At the end of his three-and-a-half-year stay in London, he went back on loan to the United States during the 1972 NASL season to play for the St. Louis Stars.[1]
