Geschichte

Der Verein wurde als Foyer France Sénégal von Papa Guèye Fall am 9. Mai 1933 als Kulturverein gegründet, bekam 1946 eine Sportabteilung und nahm in den 1940er- und 1950er-Jahren an der Coupe d’AOF, dem Pokalwettbewerb der französischen Kolonialföderation Französisch-Westafrika teil und konnte den Titel 1948 gewinnen.[1] Diesem Titel folgten später nationale Meister- und Pokaltitel im unabhängigen Senegal. Zur Saison 2009/10 spielt Diaraf in der Ligue 1, der höchsten senegalesischen Spielklasse.

Association Sportive et Culturelle Jaraaf is a Senegalese football club based in Dakar. They play in the top division in Senegalese football. Their home stadium is Stade de Diaraf. The club name is sometimes spelt ASC Jaraaf. The word Diaraf (French spelling in Senegal) or Jaraaf (Serer and English spelling in the Gambia) comes from the Serer language - Jaraaf, variation :Jaraff. The Jaraffs were the head of the Serer noble council of electors responsible for electing the Serer kings in pre-colonial times.[1]
