Historia

Fue fundado el 17 de mayo de 1973 en la capital Reikiavik y el club es conocido por desarrollar jugadores con equipos que van de los 6 a los 18 años, cuenta con un centro de entrenamiento con cuatro campos de práctica, un estadio principal con césped artificial, piscina y gimansio.

El club jugó por primera vez en la Urvalsdeild Karla en 2015 pero descendieron tras una temporada,[1] aunque en 2020 retornan a la primera división.

Aficionados

El himno del club es In the Ghetto de Elvis Presley, y lo ponen antes de cada partido de local.

Su principal rival es el equipo vecino ÍR, los cuales son los únicos equipos representantes del distrito de Breiðholt y representan a dos áreas distintas del distrito.

Íþróttafélagið Leiknir, auch unter dem Namen Leiknir Reykjavík bekannt, ist eine isländische Fußballmannschaft. Das Team spielt in der 1. deild karla, der zweithöchsten Spielklasse in Island. Der Club wurde 1973 gegründet und ist aus dem Bezirk Breiðholt, in der isländischen Hauptstadt Reykjavík. 2014 erlangte das Team den 1. Platz in der 1. deild karla und stieg in die Úrvalsdeild auf, in welcher sie allerdings nach einer Saison wieder abstiegen. Ihr Stadion steht in Leiknisvöllur. Das Motto des Teams ist "Pride of Breiðholt".

Íþróttafélagið Leiknir, commonly known as Leiknir Reykjavík, is an Icelandic sports club. It is best known for its men's football team that plays in Pepsi Max-deild karla, the highest tier of Icelandic football. The club was founded in 1973 and is based in Breiðholt, Reykjavík. In 2014 the men's football team placed 1st in the 1. deild karla and won a promotion to the Úrvalsdeild, however after just one season they were relegated to back to the first division. In 2021 they will return to the top flight having finished second in the 2020 season. Their home is Leiknisvöllur, where they have played since their early years. The club's motto is "Pride of Breiðholt".
