Novak began playing soccer in his hometown of Pickering, Ontario before joining the youth programme of the Toronto Lynx at age 14.[1] In 2012, he began attending Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, where he would play four seasons of NCAA Division II soccer.[1][2] From 2012[3] to 2014, he played for the Toronto Lynx in the USL Premier Development League.[4][5] He appeared in one match in 2012, eight in 2013,[3] and scored one goal in twelve matches in 2014.[6]
In 2015 Novak re-signed with the Lynx organization, which rebranded as the Oakville Blue Devils upon moving to League1 Ontario.[7] In 2016, Novak made two league appearances for Oakville.[8] The following season, he made 21 appearances, scoring 10 goals.[9] In his final season with Oakville in 2018, Novak scored 18 goals in 16 league appearances and added another two in two playoff appearances, winning the League1 Ontario golden boot.[10][2]
On 3 April 2019 Novak signed his first professional contract with Canadian Premier League side Forge FC, playing in both the club's and the league's first professional season.[2] On 8 May 2019, he made his debut as a starter against Pacific FC and scored the opening goal of the match in the 3rd minute.[11] He won the league with Forge in both 2019 and 2020, playing an important parth in both championships.[12]
On 12 February 2021, Novak signed his first contract abroad with Campeonato de Portugal side Clube Condeixa.[13] The move transpired quickly, as a result of his agent having a partnership with a player agency in Portugal. Condeixa were impressed with his highlight reel from Forge and offered him a contract if he could come immediately and Novak accepted and was off to Portugal within twenty-four hours.[14] He went on to make six appearances for the club that season, including two starts.[11]
On 20 April 2021, Novak returned to the Canadian Premier League, signing with Forge's rivals, Cavalry FC.[15] In January 2022, it was announced Novak would return for the 2022 season, his second with the club.[16] Cavalry would announce that Novak would leave the club upon completion of the 2022 season.[17]
