A native of Beaumont, Texas, Hightower attended Beaumont High School and played college football at Sam Houston State.[1]
He was selected by the Cleveland Rams with the 92nd pick of the 1942 NFL Draft and played as an end for the Rams in 1942 and for the Detroit Lions in 1943. He appeared in 18 NFL games, nine as a starter, and totaled 29 receptions for 489 yards and four touchdowns.[1]
