Gutiérrez made his professional debut with Colo-Colo in a 3–1 Copa Chile home win over Deportes Concepción on 1 March 2015.[1] He was loaned to fellow Chilean side Unión Española on 9 February 2017.[2] Gutiérrez was then loaned to Huachipato on 3 August 2017.[3] He returned to Colo-Colo on 6 March 2019.[4] Over his time in Chile, he played in 52 league matches, in addition to 26 appearances in the Copa Chile.[5]
On 16 January 2020 Gutiérrez signed with Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps FC on a two-year deal through the 2021 season, with contract options for 2022 and 2023.[6] He made his debut during the MLS is Back Tournament on 19 July against Seattle Sounders FC.[7]
Eligible for both Chile and Canada, Gutiérrez has represented the former at the under-20 level, winning the L'Alcúdia Tournament in 2015.[8][9]
After filing his FIFA one-time switch to switch from Chile to Canada,[10] he accepted an invitation for the Canadian senior national team camp for January 2021.[11] He was named to the 60-man preliminary roster for Canada for the 2021 Gold Cup in June 2021.[12] Initially missing out on the 23-man squad, on 12 July Vancouver announced that Gutiérrez was named as an injury replacement for Alphonso Davies, but that he would remain with the MLS club unless needed by Canada.[13]
Gutiérrez was born in Greenfield Park, Quebec and moved to Santiago when he was three years old.[5] His twin brother Diego is also a professional soccer player.[5]
