Štefulj spent his youth years with Međimurje, Varaždin and NK Zagreb. He started his senior career with NK Zagreb in 2017. In February 2018, he was signed HNK Rijeka. Rijeka loaned Štefulj to Krško in 2018, then to a different Varaždin, not associated with his youth club, in 2019 (the original NK Varaždin went bankrupt and folded in 2015). In January 2020, he returned to Rijeka.[3]
His father Danijel Štefulj was also a footballer and played for NK Varteks, a club that changed its 52-year-old name to NK Varaždin in June 2010, when its sponsorship deal with the Varteks clothing factory was cancelled. The younger Štefulj had been part of the "Varteks / Varaždin" youth program, from 2010 to when it folded in 2015.
