Club career

On 19 October 2019, four days after his 18th birthday, Tonev made his senior debut for Botev Plovdiv, during their league defeat against Ludogorets, featuring 77 minutes in a 1–0 loss.[1] On 13 January 2020, he signed his first professional contract with the club.[2] On 4 March 2020, Tonev scored his first competitive goal for Botev in a 1–0 Bulgarian Cup third round victory over Botev Galabovo.[3]
