Cittadini grew up playing in Atalanta's youth sector, joining at a young age from Lumezzane, though did not play consistently until he joined the under-17 team.[1][2] With the under-19 (Primavera) team, he won the 2019–20 Campionato Primavera 1 and the 2020 Supercoppa Primavera [it].[3]
Cittadini made his debut with the senior Atalanta team as a 90th-minute substitute on 9 January 2022 in a Serie A match against Udinese, which Atalanta won 6–2.[4]
On 7 July 2022, Cittadini moved on a season-long loan to Modena, who had just got promoted back to Serie B.[5]
Cittadini made three appearances with the Italian under-18 national team in 2019 and 2020.[6]
In June 2022, he received his first call-up to the under-20 national team,[7] subsequently making his debut with the Azzurrini on June 7, coming in as a substitute during the 1–0 home loss against Poland.[8]
On 22 September of the same year, he also made his debut with the under-21 national team, playing the second half of a friendly match against England.[9]
Cittadini is a centre-back, who can play either in a back four or in a back three. He has been regarded mainly for his strength, his positioning and his ball-playing skills.[2]
