Ignacio was born into a family linked to sports. When he was six years old, he started participating in the Colo-Colo Academy, until he stopped motivating himself to play, so when he was 13, he moved to Universidad Católica. Already in that club he was burning stages quickly, demonstrating his talent which led him to be called up to Chile U20.[1]
After the arrival of the Spanish coach Beñat San José, Ignacio made his professional debut on August 4, 2018 in a match Everton, playing 88 minutes in the win by 2 a 1, from there he would become a fixed player in the squad.
He represented Chile U17 at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where Chile reached the second stage, playing all the matches.[2]
At under-20 level, Saavedra represented Chile in the 2018 South American Games, winning the gold medal.[3]
At senior level, after being called up to some training microcycles by both Reinaldo Rueda[4] and Martín Lasarte,[5] he made his international debut in the friendly match against Bolivia on March 26, 2021, at the minute 87.[6]
