Selección nacional

Fue internacional con la selección de fútbol de Bulgaria en 45 ocasiones y marcó 5 goles.[1] Debutó el 11 de octubre de 1989 en un encuentro ante la selección de Grecia que finalizó con marcador de 4-0 a favor de los búlgaros.[1]

Participó en el mundial de Estados Unidos 1994 donde el equipo búlgaro logró su mejor performance en una copa del mundo, alcanzando el cuarto puesto. Letchov jugo los 7 partidos y anotó dos goles, uno a Grecia en fase de grupos y el gol de la victoria 2-1 frente a Alemania en cuartos de final. Jugo los 3 partidos de la Eurocopa 1996, donde su selección no paso la fase de grupos.

Yordan Letchkov (also transliterated Jordan, Iordan, Lechkov) (Bulgarian: Йордан Лечков) (born 9 July 1967) is a Bulgarian former professional footballer. He is generally regarded as one of the best players to come out of Bulgaria and was a key member of the squad which reached the semi-finals of the 1994 World Cup Finals.[1] Known to many as "The Magician", Letchkov was a gifted player who could play as a central midfielder or on the left side of midfield, and he was easily recognizable for his baldness. He was best known for his dribbling ability. However, his career was often adversely affected by his moody nature and the numerous arguments and fallings-out he had with fellow players and managers. He was the mayor of his home town for eight years, but was removed from duty due to corruption.
