Carrière

Il commence sa carrière en novembre 1980. Après 33 victoires, il remporte le titre vacant de champion du monde poids lourds IBF le 30 mai 1987 en battant par arrêt de l'arbitre à la 10^e reprise James Douglas[1] puis perd sa ceinture le 1^er août 1987 face à Mike Tyson, lors du combat de réunification des titres WBA, WBC et IBF[2]. Tucker toutefois ira au bout des 12 rounds face à Tyson, ce malgré une main droite brisée au 4^e round.

Après deux ans d'arrêt, il fait son retour fin 1989. Jusqu'en 1992, il remporte 14 victoires consécutives, mais également le titre de champion Nord-américain. En 1993, il rencontre Lennox Lewis pour le titre de champion du monde WBC mais perd le combat aux points, allant à terre à deux reprises[3].

À partir de 1995, sa carrière décline : Alourdi, à presque 40 ans, il échoue encore deux fois dans sa tentative de reconquérir le titre mondial et il est notamment battu par Bruce Seldon, Henry Akinwande, Orlin Norris, Herbie Hide et John Ruiz. Le combat contre ce dernier, en janvier 1998, sera son dernier combat important. Tucker mettra en difficulté le champion NABF au 6^e round, mais sera arrêté au 11^e round. Il arrête sa carrière professionnelle en mai 1998 après une dernière victoire contre un faire-valoir, en raison de problèmes médicaux concernant sa vision. Il détient le record du plus court règne en tant que champion du monde poids lourds : 64 jours.

Tony Craig Tucker (born December 27, 1958) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1980 to 1998. He won the IBF heavyweight title in 1987, and was the shortest-reigning world heavyweight champion at just 64 days. In an interview with Barry Tompkins, he referred to himself as the "invisible champion," due to the press and general public largely neglecting him.[1] He is best known for giving Mike Tyson in his prime a relatively close fight, in which he, in words of Larry Merchant, "rocked Tyson" in the first round.[1] However, Tyson went on to win a unanimous decision. As an amateur, he won the 1979 United States national championships, the 1979 World Cup, and a gold medal at the 1979 Pan American Games, all in the light heavyweight division.
