Biografia


Nel corso della sua carriera ha giocato con Oshawa Legionnaires (1978/79), Cornwall Royals (1979-1981), Winnipeg Jets (1981-1990), Buffalo Sabres (1990-1995), St. Louis Blues (1995/96) e Philadelphia Flyers (1995-1997). Ha conquistato per due volte la Memorial Cup (1980 e 1981). Nel 1982 gli è stato assegnato il Calder Memorial Trophy.

Con la nazionale canadese ha preso parte a tre edizioni dei campionati mondiali (1982, 1986, 1989) conquistando due medaglie di bronzo e una d'argento. Inoltre ha partecipato a due edizioni della Canada Cup (1987, 1991). Nel 2001 è stato inserito nella Hockey Hall of Fame.

Da allenatore ha guidato i Barrie Colts dal 2010 al 2017.

Dale Martin Hawerchuk (* 4. April 1963 in Toronto, Ontario; † 18. August 2020[1] in Barrie, Ontario) war ein kanadischer Eishockeyspieler und -trainer, der im Verlauf seiner aktiven Karriere zwischen 1979 und 1997 unter anderem 1285 Spiele für die Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues und Philadelphia Flyers in der National Hockey League (NHL) auf der Position des Centers bestritt. Hawerchuk, der im NHL Entry Draft 1981 als Gesamterster von den Winnipeg Jets ausgewählt wurde und insgesamt fünfmal am NHL All-Star Game teilnahm, wurde im Jahr 2001 in Anerkennung seiner außerordentlichen Karriere in die Hockey Hall of Fame aufgenommen. Von 2010 bis zu seinem Tod war er Cheftrainer der Barrie Colts aus der Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

Drafted first overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, Hawerchuk played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 16 seasons as a member of the Jets, Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers. He won the NHL's Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's Rookie of the Year in 1982 and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in his second year of eligibility in 2001. Hawerchuk served as the head coach of the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League from 2010 to 2019.
