The club was founded on 27 June 1909.
After 50 years out of professional football, the club returned in 2018, disputed the equivalent of the third division of the Campeonato Mineiro, where it took second place after losing the final on penalties to Coimbra.[9]
This season (2021) the club will dispute the first division of the Campeonato Mineiro[10] and has attracted the attention of the media when hiring the Uruguayan player Loco Abreu.[11][12][13][14][15]
The club's football matches take place at Estádio Joaquim Portugal.[16][17]
In January 2021, the board made the club's stadium available to the city for use as a vaccination point.[18][19]
