Froger played club football for Le Mans, Lille and Grenoble.[1]
Thierry Froger subsequently coached the Le Mans first team with which he was elected best coach in Ligue 2 in 1996. After Le Mans, he went to LOSC and narrowly missed the climb to L1, the northern club finishing in 4th place. Then the following season the bad results lead him to leave the club in September 1998. He was replaced by Vahid Halilhodžić. He bounced back 1 year later at La Berrichonne de Châteauroux where he replaced Joël Bats and headed the club for 4 seasons.
After his departure from Châteauroux, he signed to Gueugnon in very bad shape but managed to save the club from relegation. In 2004, he was again elected best coach of Ligue 2. Thierry Froger joined the Stade de Reims in June 2005, where he remained for three seasons, with a qualification to the semi-final in the Coupe de la Ligue. He was replaced by Didier Tholot in June 2008. In June 2010, he took the helm of the Togo team, but resigned in March. In the process, Froger signed to Nîmes Olympique to try to save the Crocodiles, who were in 17th place in the Ligue 2 championship, 1 point from the first relegation. He failed to maintain the club which fell to the National. Still in place during the 2011–12 National season, he managed to re-mobilize the Nîmes workforce and immediately came back by finishing 1st in the championship. On 25 May 2012, despite his results, his contract was not renewed.
In January 2013, he replaced Stéphane Le Mignan at the head of the Vannes Olympique Club in National. Upon taking office, he failed in his attempt to bring the club back to Ligue 2 before finishing 17th the following season. Following this relegation, the club filed for bankruptcy and he left office. He bounced back at the Créteil-Lusitanos on 7 January 2015, taking over from resigned Philippe Hinschberger with the goal of keeping the club in Ligue 24. The club finished the season in 14th place with 45 points. After a good start to the 2015–16 season, the club was fourth at the end of the 9th round, he went on to have 7 defeats in 9 games including an elimination in the 7th round of the Coupe de France. On 4 December, Froger was laid off. On 5 December 2020 USMA agreed with former club coach Thierry Froger to lead him for one season after a consultation with Yahia and some lead players.[2]
At the beginning of the 2021–22 Djibouti Premier League season, Froger was hired by AS Arta/Solar7 as head coach. Led by Froger, the team won the Premier League and the Djibouti Cup in 2022.[3]
